Ariful Haque Choudhury, joined as the elected Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation on 18th Sep 2013 and then re-elected to a second term as Mayor and took office on 8th Oct 2018. He was born on 1959 in a respected Muslim family at Kumarpara Mohalla of Sylhet City.

Mr. Ariful Haque Choudhury is a renowned politician of Sylhet Division. He started his political career as a member of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal which is a co-organization of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Now he is serving BNP as central executive committee member and as the Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Krishok Dal. He was the former President of Sylhet City BNP and former Secretary of Sylhet District BNP.
He was first elected as a councillor of Sylhet City Corporation on 2003. As the Chairman of the City Development Committee that time, he was engaged very closely with the development activities of the Sylhet City area. Since then, he has been the pioneer of development activities in Sylhet City. During his tenure as Mayor, he has developed and constructed the important roads, drains, footpath and transport terminals of Sylhet City. He has also taken necessary steps for the beautification of Sylhet City. He is working actively for the digitalization of citizen services provided by Sylhet City Corporation. These successes brought a huge popularity to him.
Besides his political career, Mr. Ariful Haque Choudhury is engaged with various social, educational and religious organizations. He is actively associated with diabetic association and hospital, Red Crescent Society, Jalalabad Blind Welfare Association and many other schools, colleges and religious institutes. He was the Director of the Jalalabad Gas Distribution and Transmission Company Limited.
Mr. Ariful Haque Choudhury has visited many countries such as USA, UK, Canada, China, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, India, Nepal, Thailand, etc.
He is happy in life with his wife, two daughters and a son.
