Sylhet, the spiritual capital of Bangladesh blessed with the reminiscence of Hazrat Shahjalal (R), Hazrat Shahporan (R), Sree Chaitanya Dev and many other respected spiritual personalities, has ever been symbolized as a place for peace, harmony and heritage. The urban history of Sylhet is not just something from the recent past, rather it traces back to centuries ago when a civilization started to build up by the Surma. The present scenario of Sylhet, however, gives a different impression. Particularly, in the last two decades the city has experienced a remarkable growth creeping in most of the outskirts inside the city area. Thus, once a small town, with a limited population, is now facing the challenges of drastic urban growth coupled with the pressure of ever increasing population. Unfortunately, the city is not yet prepared to effectively address the needs of its increasing population. Therefore, on assuming the office of the Mayor, I have emphasized on overall capacity building of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC). There are numerous problems and complaints from the citizens regarding the services of the Corporation. We are trying are level best to bring visible improvement in the services we render. Moreover, the most vital point regarding facing the challenges of rapid urban growth is an integrated development plan. We are also working on that.
We are committed to ensure your easy access to the SCC and to build a strong relationship based on sharing of views and mutual understanding. This website is part of that effort. If you have suggestions as to how we can improve our services and make this city a better place to live please let us know. With your proactive participation, we are looking forward to build a city which will be an icon for all.
